Intuit • QuickBooks Live on mobile

Enabling collaboration with QuickBooks experts, whenever and wherever

77% of QuickBooks Live customers are service and project based businesses such as construction, transportation services, and real estate. As I worked to improve collaboration on Live, it became clear that our customers expected to meet us where they are, and it was usually not on a computer in an office. I led the effort to bring the improved collaboration experience to the QuickBooks mobile app for iOS and Android to enable customers to share information and collaborate even faster with their bookkeeper.

Customers expect to collaborate with their bookkeeper on mobile the same way they do on their desktop

Since customers expected a mobile experience that matched their capabilities on desktop, I created mobile designs for the key user tasks for QuickBooks Live. These designs were used as a prototype and tested with current QuickBooks Live customers.

For me, I like to use an app the same way the desktop version interacts. I like them to be a 1:1 mapping. Not having to put my phone down to go to my computer is ultimately what I want from the app.

Integrating the Live service experience into the core QuickBooks mobile experience

The usability tests I conducted with QuickBooks Live customers proved that a mobile experience was important to the success of the the Live service. I then built out the experience with all of the features and functions of collaboration optimized for tablet and phone devices. I also worked closely with the QuickBooks mobile team to ensure that the designs aligned with the mobile design system.

I tested variations of top nav, bottom nav, and comment functionality in user tests.

I created highly detailed functional specs to help the mobile team understand the interaction.

I usually go home, sit at my desktop and scan documents for my bookkeeper. But, if you could let me scan from the app and adjust lighting then I can do it whenever I want.

Conclusion

In 2023 the QuickBooks Live experience launched on Mobile. I left Intuit before the launch, but I am confident that customers benefitted from the work I did to bring the features on desktop experience to their mobile devices.
